The Millennium Effect celebrates its twenty-sixth anniversary this year, serving up obsessively researched articles and data since 1998 about pop music based around the show, computer games and more.

We’re currently on a journey to spruce up the site and give you more of what you love.

The old site (still available here) has mostly been migrated into the new look, but we have a lot of work still to do to refresh the older content, improve image quality and so on. Follow our Twitter feed and we’ll notify you of our updates.

We think you’ll enjoy what we have planned, and we’re certainly excited by what’s coming up!

March 2024

The Season 15 Collection page, and a refresh of the overall Collection tracker, have been my first forray into editing the pages Matt previously cared for. From the Vaults: Sylvester McCoy has also been updated with over 150 new items unearthed by Andrew Hodson.

November 2023

We’ve just massively spruced up the From the Vaults: Colin Baker page, doubling it from around 220 items to over 450! The Season 20 Collection page has taken a back seat with some real-life stuff happening lately, but we’re aiming to have that finished in December.

We’ve continued work on heavily revising the From the Vaults section, now covering Pertwee and Tom Baker!

April 2023

  • Our Season 9 Collection page has now been completed, and massive updates to our From the Vaults pages for Hartnell and Troughton, beginning a lot of planned updates for the rest of this year. This site has had infrequent updates over the last year because of the project below, but most work on that is now coming to a close, so TME should get plenty of attention this year!

  • This has been a busy year with Quantum Leap activity (see here for more info) but we’re back now to focus on TME for the 60th anniversary year (and also the 25th anniversary of TME!). The Season 2 Collection page is now underway, and there’s some big revisions coming over the next few months to other areas of the site.
  • Added archive article ‘Beginning at the End‘.

April 2022

  • We’ve now added over 230 entries for a new 2001-2004 page in From the Vaults, along with around the same amount of corrections and additions to earlier pages. Although it seems like we’ve had a few months off, we’ve been planning some great new stuff for the rest of 2022!

  • Our guide to The Collection Season 26 has now been revised and expanded, closing off our updates to that section… for now!

November

  • With the discovery of a surprise variant Silver Nemesis, we’ve updated The VHS Guide.
  • The launch of a brand new ‘scrapbook‘ section, containing assorted scans of rare artefacts, starting with a 1993 press release for Dimensions in Time.

October

  • Our guides to The Collection Seasons 18 and 23 have now been updated and revised, with only 26 still in the old style, expected to be revised in November.
  • Several updates to The Collection Season 17 and the Animations page in light of various announcements.

September

  • We’ve overhauled our guide to The Collection Season 14, adding lots of additional information and images. Still to update are Season 18, 19, 23 and 26 – we hope to have at least the first two of those completed before the year is out.
  • Our From the Vaults section now contains over 250 entries for 1996 and 1997, plus a lot of updates to earlier years.
  • We’ve made more significant updates to the Animations page, adding lots of extra detail, and preparing for the upcoming release of Evil.
  • We’ve now updated our guide to The Collection Season 19, with particular focus on the wide variety of DVD re-releases of Earthshock! We expect to have Season 18 updated later this month, 23 in October alongside the re-relase, and then Season 26 before the end of the year.

July

  • Celebrating the announcement of The Evil of the Daleks, a minor update to our Animations page, and the long-awaited reveal of our Patrick Troughton surviving clips page (Season Four anyway – the rest will follow!), which covers in detail where the clips have been released, and unlike other guides online, also includes comprehensive notes on cliffhanger re-uses.
  • This week The Collection reached Season 24, and our page has been updated dramatically to share the details of over 50 hours of material!
  • Our From the Vaults section has now expanded to included over 250 items from 1993-1995.

June 2021

  • Our Collection guide to Season 12 has been spruced up a lot, based on the format for Seasons 8 and 10. We’re going to take a short break from these revisions for a little while to give us time to focus on new features (and the Season 24 page, of course!), but we’ll return to these in July, where we’ll be adding information to the Seasons 14 and 18 pages.

  • We continue our focus on the new From the Vaults section, now covering 1987-1989 with around 200 entries in the Sylvester McCoy pages and a special look at the Max Headroom Pirate Incident.
  • Our Collection guide to Season 10 has been refreshed a little based on the format for Season 8, with extra information and a clearer layout. Season 12 coming soon…

April 2021

  • We’ve now finished the Tom Baker era in our TV Appearances guide, along with a lot of updates to the earlier eras.
  • Since our TV Appearances guide has taken on radio appearances, we’ve moved it to its own section called ‘From the Vaults’. Newly added are the Peter Davison and Colin Baker eras, with lots more updates to the first four Doctors, including a thorough summary of William Hartnell’s Desert Island Discs.
  • We’ve also finished our guide to the Season 8 Collection, taking a deep dive into the content on the latest Blu-ray. We’ll be going back soon and adding more information about the earlier releases too.

March 2021

  • A small new gallery of images from a visit to Graham Strong‘s house in 2016, with pictures of his original offair recordings.
  • The Season 8 Collection guide has been updated following the set’s release. We’ve taken an even more in-depth approach here than for the previous seven releases, and we will slowly be updating the older pages to match.
  • A brand new guide to clips from missing episodes of the William Hartnell era; not only the recovered clips, but also clear information on cliffhanger reprises, and also where the clips can be found on various VHS, DVD and Blu-ray releases. A Troughton list will follow.
  • Our TV Appearances guide now contains the first half of the Tom Baker era, along with plenty of updates to the Hartnell, Troughton and Pertwee lists.
