The short clip is from a 15-minute reel of 8mm film shot from a TV screen by a fan. This was released on the 2004 Lost in Time DVD as a 6:11 compilation of footage with the other 8mm clips from the Hartnell era and finally appeared within the reconstruction on the 2013 The Aztecs: SE DVD.
The start and end of the longer clip was handed to Jan Vincent-Rudzki by the producers of Whose Doctor Who as a thank you for his support in the production. The middle of the clip was used in Whose Doctor Who. There are a few moments missing during one of the two cuts. The entire sequence formed a highlight of the 1998 Missing Years VHS documentary, then appeared again on the 2004 Lost in Time DVD in isolation, and finally was used in the reconstruction on the 2013 The Aztecs: SE DVD.

All of these are silent film trims found in late 1991 during research for the BBC documentary Resistance is Useless. All except the Dalek city lights were released as part of the 1992 VHS Daleks: The Early Years (later reissued as a bonus on the 2020 Power of the Daleks Blu-ray), and then also appeared on the 1998 VHS The Missing Years and on the 2004 DVD Lost in Time. The Dalek city lights has never been released.
