Exiled to Earth in the late 20th Century by his own people - the Time Lords - the newly regenerated Doctor arrives in Oxley Woods alongside a shower of mysterious meteorites. Investigating these unusual occurrences is the newly-formed United Nations Intelligence Taskfoce - UNIT for short. Led by Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart, UNIT are soon called into action when people and meteorites start going missing. Most puzzling of all is the attempted kidnapping of a strange hospital patient - a man with two hearts, who insists that he knows the Brigadier...
The new Doctor soon joins forces with his old friend, UNIT and the recently recruited Dr Liz Shaw, but time is running out... Irregular things are happening at a nearby plastics factory, while faceless creatures lurk in the woods. The Nestenes have arrived, and want to conquer the Earth... -- from the DVD release, 2000 Among the very first of the DVD releases, and had been a very early VHS release, Spearhead was chosen on each occasion due the very high quality of the prints, and the fact that it was often hailed as a classic of the Pertwee era. Restoration Notes
The Fleetwood Mac track "Oh Well" used during Episode 1 has caused clearance issues with the various releases. Both the omnibus and DVD versions had two different sets of factory sound effects dubbed over the piece, while the 1994 video accidentally came out with the clip as originally broadcast in 1970. The story was already cleaned and restored for the 1999 repeat, but an extra 400 blobs were removed for the DVD release.Classifications
