Released
on some issues of PC Pro issue 71, dated September 2000, this DVD advertises
most of the BBC range to that date. The menu sequence (inaccurately described on
the cover as 'not interactive') was made up of the opening sequence of The
Planets, backed with music from Walking With Dinosaurs and some sound effects
from The Five Doctors, with clips from the featured DVDs soft-wiped in. Upon
selecting a disc to preview, the viewer would then see brief, non-interactive,
clips of the menu screens (the Black Adder clips employed cross-fading and
musical backing to make the menu seem more attractive) and then previews of the
shows themselves. The demo of the Five Doctors menu sequence featured some
dubbed-on sound effects from the opening of the actual story, giving the menu a
much darker feel. The buttons surrounding the main menu screen were also
animated slightly, bobbing in and out as the clip begins.
The clip is of the sequence where Borusa is given immortality, from "I am Lord
President of Gallifrey; YOU are the notorious renegades" to "All I ask is that
we be returned to our proper place in time and space".
The DVD also features a booklet advertising the six products and their
spin-offs. Of The Five Doctors it says it "featues extended scenes, previously
unseen sequences, new visual effects and of course the Daleks!". Whilst the DVD
case is a standard silver one in line with the BBC's range at the time, the
images in the booklet are all made up of the DVD's own booklets placed inside
jewel cases. In the case of The Five Doctors, this means the words "The Special
Edition" are missing.
